What's your band/artist name? Can you tell us a little bit about you and your career/projects so far?
I'm Soffie (ff like fortissimo, due to my loud nature). I'm a singer and producer based in Mannheim, creating "ffat German indie-pop with electronic influences." I began releasing music in 2022, but only recently have I started making my mark in the German indie scene. I do so boldly and with confidence! As a woman in this industry, it's vital for me to make a statement and secure a spot in playlists and line-ups, as the unequal conditions for FLINTA* in music have long frustrated me. My songs, however, cover a broad range of themes.
How did you get into music and what were /are your influences?
I began playing the piano and singing at an early age, around five. The main influence was my mom's piano, located in our living room. It still holds great sentimental value for me. Musically, the electronic pop movement of the 2010s was particularly influential for me, in which I had something like a musical 'awakening' with artists like Lorde, Stromae and Mø.
Which partners / artists have inspired / accompanied you on your way and how?
My most important partner is my anger. But we have a very toxic relationship.
How would you describe your music or your sound?
Like smashing dishes in an empty factory building or dancing in the rain during a thunderstorm. I love everything that sounds big, epic and dramatic and that's what my music sounds like.
What was your most formative experience in your career so far?
Every recent success becomes my new most formative experience. Currently, I'd say it was a performance in Osnabrück, where a musician friend invited me to support Alli Neumann and Anaïs. The entire evening was so magical and wonderful that I wished it would never end.
Can you tell us about highs and lows of your music career so far. How did you tackle it and what have you learnt from it?
Every high point is often followed by a deep fall. When things are going well, my pessimism reminds me of the work still ahead. Every success, though joyous, has this lingering aftertaste for which I'm yet to find a solution. Patience with myself, meditation, and time with friends are what help me most in such situations.
How did you hear about MusicHub and why did you choose our platform to distribute your music?
I've been a GEMA member for three years, during which I discovered MusicHub. The platform is incredibly user-friendly. The fact that it's free for GEMA members definitely influenced my decision.
Tell us more about your latest MusicHub release.
My latest release, "Heute Sterben," is as dramatic as its title suggests and reflects my personality. It discusses unconditional love and the readiness to sacrifice everything for someone.
What goals do you still want to achieve? What are your plans for the future?
I'll be releasing two new songs at the beginning of next year. I would love to finish producing and releasing my first EP. I also want to play a headline tour at some point, with a bus and all that jazz.My current plan is to write and produce as much as possible. I aim to release at least five new songs in 2024. Concurrently, I'm developing merchandise, planning my own tour, and arranging support shows and features. Additionally, I'm eager to participate in various festivals! I've even tentatively marked Southside and Happiness for 2025 in my calendar.
