What is your artist name? Can you tell us a bit about the genesis of your project?
My name is Sarah Bugar, and that's both my real name and my stage name. I'm actually a trained chef and hairdresser, but the coronavirus pandemic has really turned my life upside down. In the nine weeks I was off from work, I took the opportunity to transform my thoughts and feelings into music. This unexpected time of rest and reflection inspired me to write my first songs and bring my musical project to life.
How did you get into music and who are your influences?
Music has always accompanied me, but for years I didn't dare to make my own music. Thanks to the book "Mögest du glücklich sein" (May you be happy), I regained faith in myself and found the courage to write my own songs. Artists like Pink, Lana Del Rey and The Script are a great inspiration for me. I was also deeply impressed and influenced by Adele, Taylor Swift, Florence + The Machine and Coldplay. Their music and their stories have motivated me to follow my own musical path.
Who has inspired or accompanied you on your journey, and how?
Pink, Lana Del Rey / Benjamin Amaru / The Script and many more...
How would you describe your music or your sound?
My music is a mixture of profound lyrics and catchy melodies. My sound combines elements of pop, indie and singer-songwriter, with emotional and authentic lyrics taking centre stage. My songs are honest and reflect personal experiences and feelings, which makes my music particularly approachable and touching.
What was the most formative experience in your career so far?
Phew, that's a good question! There have been so many wonderful moments in my career so far. One highlight was definitely Kieler Woche, where Amistat and Jules Ahoi played after me - I'm a huge fan of both of them. Another unforgettable moment was when I was allowed to sit next to Suzi Quatro at a press conference. There really have been so many moments that I'm incredibly grateful for and I'm excited and looking forward to everything the future holds.
Can you tell us about the highs and lows of your musical career? How did you overcome them and what did you learn from them?
There have definitely been highs and lows in my musical career. The highs include moments such as successfully performing at festivals, meeting and collaborating with inspiring artists and releasing my own music. These moments have confirmed and motivated me to continue on my path. The downs were often associated with self-doubt, setbacks and times of uncertainty. There were phases when I wondered whether I was on the right path or whether I was even good enough to pursue my dream. In those moments, it was important to focus on my passion for music and to have the support of friends and family. I have learnt that setbacks and failures are part of the process and that they can make me stronger if I am willing to learn from them. I have learnt to believe in myself, even when it is difficult, and that perseverance and determination are often the key to success. Most importantly, however, is to always keep my passion and love for music in my heart and let it guide me no matter what.
